TWO DAY COURSE

Always wanted to make your own jeans but daunted by the idea? Then this is the course for you. Designed for confident sewers looking to take their skills further, you will learn how to construct and make your very own pair of jeans to your own body measurements in this great two day sewing weekend workshop.

The pattern offered on this course is the Closet Case Ginger Jeans pattern designed for stretch denim. There is choice to make either a comfortable low rise narrow stovepipe leg version or a high-waisted skinny leg version with a tummy-slimming pocket stay. This pattern is very flattering and comfortable for all body shapes.
Workshop details and what you will learn:
Measuring up for correct size
Making basic pattern adjustments to your meet your individual body shape where applicable.
Cutting the paper pattern and fabric according to correct size
Basic construction of your jeans using a basting stitch
Making further fit adjustments to the pattern using simple fitting alterations
Making patch pockets & belt loops
Construct front faced pockets
Create a front fly zip fastening
Main construction of your jeans
Assemble and attach a contour waistband
Attaching jeans hardware (optional)
The Ginger Jeans paper pattern is included in the course costs and is yours to take home along with your gorgeous new pair of jeans! In addition a PDF A0 print out of the pattern is available for use on the workshop along with extra pattern paper for adjustments to the pieces.
Tea/coffee, biscuits and cake as always. Please advise on any food allergies or intolerances and we will try our best to cater for you.
What you need to bring:
Main Fabric - 2.3m-2.7m (45”/1.15m width) 1.4m-2m (58”/1.5m width). Fabric suggestions: Stretch denim, twill or corduroy with at least 2% lycra. Please ensure correct stretch denim/fabric is purchased. Non stretch denim is unsuitable for this pattern. If unsure please contact us for advice.
Cotton lining for pockets and waistband - 45cm
Fusible interfacing - 45cm
Denim Zipper - Stovepipe leg low rise version - 5”/6” dependent on size
- Skinny leg high rise version - 7”/8” dependent on size
Topstitching thread and regular thread
Optional - rivets
Students are advised to pre wash their fabric in advance of the workshop to allow for any shrinkage before making the jeans to avoid disappointment of shrinking after washing for the first time after making the jeans.
This course is suitable to confident sewers who are used to a variety of commercial sewing patterns and can follow a pattern unaided. Some experience with minor alterations and fitting would be advantageous. Depending on level of experience you may not completely finish the project in two days.
