We are extremely excited to offer again our wonderful three day sewing retreat. The retreat now provides three nights accommodation to aid those travelling from further afield to take their time to arrive, settle and relax, before providing even more uninterrupted sewing, gorgeous food, in a beautiful setting right on the banks of the River Great Ouse.
Your stay will be at The Embankment Hotel, which has become one of the premier spots in the heart of Bedford, with wonderful views out over the landscaped embankment and stunning river. In addition to this, we have full use of their private dining room and extended back room throughout the retreat for the ultimate in sewing heaven. Sarah Fletcher will be on hand throughout the retreat, assisted by Georgina Cox , to provide expert help and guidance with your planned projects. This is a perfect opportunity to indulge in guilt free sewing for three days, whilst being catered for by the wonderful staff and facilities at The Embankment. It is also a perfect opportunity to make new sewing friendships, perhaps catch up with existing ones, or a break away with likeminded family or close friends.
In addition, we have once again, the fantastic and experienced Angela Cooper - Yoga With Coops - providing a candlelit yoga session at the end of day two. This will provide a calming yoga flow suitable for those new to yoga as well as those more experienced. The postures will be based on releasing tension in the neck, shoulder and back, specifically tailored to help sewers. Angela will also guide on how to rest the mind using breathing techniques and essential oils, teamed with a mini head massage and shoulder soother. The session will leave you feeling relaxed, soothed and rested.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THE WEEKEND AWAY:
THURSDAY 31ST OCTOBER
Arrive at The Embankment Hotel at your leisure and spend the time after arriving relaxing by the river, or exploring the local town perhaps. Sarah will meet you in the bar at 6pm, before any plans you have for dinner. This is a perfect opportunity for everyone to get to know each other over a drink! The Embankment have half price Prosecco on Thursday evenings - great incentive if you needed one!
FRIDAY 1ST NOVEMBER
After a good nights sleep and delicious breakfast, we will begin first thing from 9am in the designated sewing area. A delicious and energising buffet lunch will be provided after midday, followed by cake around 3/4pm. Tea, coffee refreshments will be available throughout the day to keep you replenished. The sewing room will be available until 6pm with help from the team throughout should you need it. After, you may wish to take a stroll down the river, wind down in the bar or in your room before meeting again for a sit down dinner in the main restaurant.
SATURDAY 2ND NOVEMBER
As per the Friday format, the sewing room will be open from 9am, with a varied buffet lunch, refreshments, cake and unlimited sewing assistance. We will then finish earlier at 4.30 to get ready to take part in Angela’s yoga session to wind down, stretch out and relax from a busy two days worth of sewing. Once finished, stretched and calm, we will reconvene later for a sit down dinner in the evening, held in the main restaurant.
SUNDAY 3RD NOVEMBER
Once again, the sewing room will be open from 9am with help on hand for all your sewing advice, help and tips. Once lunch has been served, there will be a few more hours of sewing until winding up your sewing projects and packing away before we finish for the weekend by 4pm. Refreshments and cake will be served before we complete our lovely long sewing indulgent weekend.
If you wish to extend your break for a further evening to make the most of the break before travelling home, an additional night on the Sunday can also be added to your booking via the drop down menu above.

THE PACKAGE INCLUDES:
Three nights stay in either a double room (single occupancy) or twin room (shared occupancy).
Breakfast on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the three night stay.
A buffet lunch served on all three days.
A two course evening meal with an alcoholic (or non-alcoholic) beverage on both the Friday and Saturday evening. Choose an amazing variety of food from The Embankment’s full menu, specials board and drinks menu. NB any additional courses or drinks are NOT included and will be charged to your room for settlement by you directly with The Embankment.
Tea/herbal tea/filter coffee/water will be available throughout your time in the sewing room.
Afternoon cake will be served on all three days.
Dedicated sewing space, with a lockable room to leave your machine and projects in when not in use, allowing you to leave your machine and equipment ready for the next session. There will also be a privacy screen for fitting and trying on garments.
Expert sewing help and advice on hand throughout the sewing sessions from Sarah, assisted by Georgina.
Advice and guidance prior to the retreat to help plan what you wish to achieve during your sewing time with us. Sarah will contact you a week or two before to discuss this with you, together with any dietary requirements.
Restorative yoga session with Yoga With Coops, including mats and blankets.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING:
Please bring your own sewing machine and equipment. However, should you need to borrow a sewing machine please contact us on booking (subject to availability). Overlockers will be available to use throughout the sewing sessions, together with ironing areas, cutting out areas and basic sewing equipment.
Any fabric, notions and patterns (including spare pattern paper for any pattern adjustments) for your chosen project(s). If there are notions you may have forgotten, there is a nearby haberdashery in town called Fabric World or Hobbycraft is short drive away.
Comfortable and light clothing for the yoga session. No specific yoga clothing is required only clothing that is flexible and comfortable for the session.
A pillow (or use the hotel’s pillows) for the yoga session to benefit from full relaxation.
Please feel free to explore Bedford before or after the retreat. A short stroll from the Embankment Hotel is the Bedford Museum, and the award-winning Cecil Higgins Art Gallery. In addition there is the local town, specifically around Castle Quay, Riverside, The Arcade off The High Street and St Cuthberts Street. There are also beautiful villages which surround Bedford that are worth a drive through and an explore.
